Yesterday I visited the Rheged Centre a great place to go for Art and Culture and is also great for children.
Whilst we were there we visited an exhibition showing the contenders and winner of the 2017 Women's Hour craft prize. There are about 12 exhibitors and is well worth a visit for £2.50. The work is from artisans that produce pottery, basket weaving, bike making, paper manipulation and others.
I particularly liked the artist
who mended woollen clothing. She would ask her friends if they needed any repairs done and would then quiz them about the garment. She gained story's about the items and In her exhibit she had a tank top from a retired G.P. This top was made by his wife about 30 years ago from seeing one on holiday and replicated it when she got home. Celia mended several holes with straight stitches in a slightly different colour and looked like it contained lots of memories. When the man told her the story it must have been good for him to reminisce and it would be fun to be able to wear the top again on occasions, even though it was from the 1970's.
