There are two types used in this work shop
1. Aqua Film
2.Vilene
These films can be machined into then washed away leaving the thread behind. It can be great to use to make your own emblems/ shapes and patterns.
The aqua film looks like cling film and you can put it straight into an embroidery hoop for machining. You need to make sure you are stitching enough stitches so it doesn't fall apart when washed out. Sew down a base layer of stitches in cross directions this will support the design. However if the look you want is more flimsy then less stitches are required.
The Vilene looks like thin fabric and can be also sewn into directly or could be layered on top of the fabric, especially if you want to cut holes out of the fabric to create windows. The stitches can then be made over the holes.
Wash out out throughly in warm water as can leave a residue behind.
Other details discussed in the lesson.
You can machine stitch shapes into the wash away to create sides of a box or structure even pattern pieces for clothes then sew them together!
When sewing cross stitch for texture and pile use some velcro to brush the fibres after, this makes the pile more professional.
Use a broken needle to machine through heavy embroidered fabric for a distressed look, or file the needle down and use for distressing and sewing at the same time
