I caught the train to Liverpool to meet up with my family that have been staying in the Lake District. I was looking forward to visiting The Tate but came across the Walker Art Gallery first. Hoping to view some paintings from the Impressionists we went in and bingo I hit the jack pot.
I have been reading about the Impressionists for my year 1 essay and there is nothing like seeing them in the flesh or paint!
I am standing next to Claude Monet's Ice Breaking Up on the Seine Near Bennecourt painted in 1893. This picture to me reiterates the use of light on a painting that the impressionists where renowned for Its a lovely picture the colours used are very soft and the perspective shows real movement of the water. The middle picture is by George Seurat you can also see the great use of light in this landscape, the layering of paint gives a rich look to the painting even though the colours are not bright, to me It looks like there is a storm coming.
