Tie Dyeing with direct dyes and Indigo dye

Tie dye is a form of resist dye. This is where you stop the dye from penetrating parts of the fabric leaving the fabric with its exist colour.

One of the resist dyes is called the doughnut

We rolled the fabric up and folded in half . Then we pulled on the string to make it taught and tied a knot.

These are the other type of tie dye that we completed.

Orange tie dye was folded like a fan then elastic bands where wrapped round the middle of the fabric.

The blue squares are dyed in indigo using a block of wood for resist. The fabric is first folded together like a fan then folded into triangles and sandwiched between two pieces of wood compressed together and held with a clamp. It is then submerged into the indigo dye bath for about 20 mins. When you bring the fabric out the fabric is green, it then oxidises with the air and turns blue.

The green fabric was folded into triangles, then I attached 2 jam jar lids one on top and one on the bottom and held them with a clamp tight. I proceeded to wrap string around the fabric and clamp and add 4 small bulldog clips to the surrounding fabric. Then I it added to the dye bath.
