Pigments&Binders (plastic polymer emulsion)
Pigments can be mixed with binders and used on any fabrics. It can also be used on perspex (a solid transparent plastic made of polymethyl methacrylate )and concrete (a building material made from a mixture of broken stone or gravel, sand, cement, and water).
The binders (thickeners) are used together with pigments to transfer colour onto different surfaces. we are using fabric in our work shop.
Recipe
3.5g of pigment to 100g of binder
Opaque binder. This binder will allow colour to be transferred on top of another colour without any colour mixing, a yellow will stay yellow over blue and not turn green for instance.
White Binder. This binder will make pale shades you cannot make red!
Transparent Binder. This binder will allow the mixing of colour depending on the colour you are starting with.
Metallic binder. used with metal powders. 10g powder to 100g binder recipe.
Fluorescent powders can be used with either transparent or opaque binders recipe the same as opaque binder.
Puff binder can be used on its own or with small amount of pigments. To cure place on heat bed and hold down heat press DO NOT COMPLETELY CLOSE until puffing occurs.
These Pigment binders sit on the top of fabric and do not penetrate all the way through, an example of these binders is with logo t-shirts.
