ABOUT ME
Personal Statement
I am a Textile designer practicing in knit and surface print. I interpret visual sources, collecting inspiration through photography, drawing, print, light, and colour, which I translate into textile pieces. I like to include both old and new techniques in my practice, experimenting, analysing, and incorporating historic and contemporary styles.
A key driver for me is sustainability, particularly my concern for textile waste. As such I primarily reuse materials or find those that are compostable or recyclable. I like to highlight this focus on sustainability when presenting my work to encourage others in this respect. My open mindedness leads me to collaboration, encourages new ideas and keeps my work contemporary.
Cultural exploration has had a positive impact on my knowledge and growth as a person and has given me design inspiration in particular past trips to China, Japan, and Finland. I also enjoy getting back to basics where my family and I go camping and hiking; The Lake District is a particular favourite.
